Give Us Signs and Wonders!

I went to a church several years ago to meet with a Worship Pastor who I really respect. There was a team of us from our church and we got to sit in on their rehearsal. During rehearsal he taught his band and vocal team new songs he had written (we videoed the rehearsal so we had the goods before the album hit!) One of the songs had the title above and as much as I respect him, I could not get into the song. I kept going back to the passage in Matthew 12:38-42, saying, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign!”

Our Core Group hit Acts 5:12-16 last night as the apostles healed people left and right. We struggled through issues of desiring to see miracles and yet, not wanting to “need” to see miracles. We wrestled with televangelisms portrayal to the world of Christianity. In spite of our dislike of most of them, we asked what our right to judge them was – we came up with a few.

Yet, when it comes to down to what our hearts ought to be focused upon, we found I Corinthians 1:18-25 to speak loudly to us as Paul made the statement that the Jews were looking for signs and the Greeks were looking for wisdom, but what God gave us was the foolishness of the cross. That ought to be what we drill into on a daily basis – the cross of Christ. If we place our identity, our needs, our hopes, our religion anywhere else, we have become the Pharisees.

Core Group – 4/13/2005

What a great night last night – except for the fact that we missed Burke! (The cararmel apple pie more than made up for that though) It really seems like everyone is sharing and opening their hearts up to the rest of the group. I know that takes time, but I am really excited about what is taking place on Wednesday evenings. The living room was filling up also – what a great problem. It is probably time for us to start thinking about what we need to do as a next step as we continue to grow.

I am so thankful to have John and Sherri with us. It makes Pathways seem all the more real to me.

Blog Subscriptions

As the church continues to develop, we hope to be providing more updates about what we are learning together in the core group, as well as general information about some of the things happening at the church. I know that most of you have this page automatically set as the start page in your web browser :) , but, if for same strange reason, you have chosen not to do that, here are a few ways you can receive updates whenever there is an update to this site:

1) You can subscribe to receive an email every time there is a new entry posted.

2) For those of you who have discovered the wonderful world of RSS readers, you can subscribe to the RSS feed. If you’re not familiar with what RSS is, don’t worry, you aren’t behind the times…yet. RSS is a way to read web content that allows you to subscribe to everything from personal blogs to the latest news headlines. It’s really gaining popularity right now, and more and more sites are offering RSS feeds. This means that you only have to go to one place to read the news you are interested in, and it is only the news you subscribe to. I personally use Bloglines as my RSS reader, and I recommend it to you as well.

Both of these links are now available on the sidebar under the subscription section.

Safe and Sound

Sherri, Macey and I have arrived in the Seattle area safe and sound! We’re excited to be here and to start getting acclimated. We are staying with Pam Melton, who served in the student ministry in Mesa years ago before she moved up here, and we are grateful for the warm welcome…and the roof to keep us dry!

Please keep our family in your prayers over the next few months. We have a number of things to sort out while we await our next daughter, including finding a place to live long-term, family finances, new friendships for all of us, and finding the perfect ballet class for Macey.
