Go Fly a Kite!

This Sunday evening, we will be having a BBQ to begin to gather some of the people who have expressed interest and curiosity about Pathways. This is not only open to the people we have already met who have expressed interest, but also to those who have heard about Pathways secondhand and would like to connect with the rest of us.

We are gathering at the Martha Lake County Park (on 164th just east of I-5) at 5pm. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks will be provided. Bring a side dish to share and your own paper plates and utensils (or fine china and silver if you prefer!).

Don’t expect any sort of formal presentation. We’d be happy to answer any questions about what Pathways is about while tossing a football or flying a kite, but, the main focus of this evening is just to get acquainted with one another.

What Were They Thinking?

I don’t want to name any names, but a couple of the staff members of Pathways were planning pretty poorly when they decided to do a BBQ on June 19. That is Father’s Day, and also the weekend the Kuests will be moving into their house. So, please forget the previous announcement that we will be having a BBQ on the 19th, and place it on your calendar on the evening of the 26th instead. More details will follow…

Update – June 2005

This afternoon, we sent out what we hope will be the first of many email updates to our friends and supporters both locally and around the country. If you didn’t receive that, you can view it here.

Seattle Children’s Museum

Tonight, the Christian Evangelistic Association held a gathering at the Seattle Children’s Museum where many of their supporters gathered to meet the planters of new churches. It was a lot of fun, first of all for our kids. I did not see them most of the night as they explored a pretty incredible place of fun and imagination. Second, it was great to meet so many others who, like us, have taken this step into church planting. There were some of the old guard who planted churches years and years ago and guys like myself who are still trying to figure out what they are doing. It was incredibly encouraging to see the fruit of churches who have struggled through this process and have endured.

Every time that Leslie and I get discouraged or over-stressed about something, we try to remind each other that we are in the fire – the refiner’s fire. It is in the fire that we are purified as it burns away the impurity. Our prayer is that we would never run from the fire, but learn to embrace it as a gift from God. I’m still learning…sometimes with my back to the fire as I run.

BBQ

We are looking to have a BBQ at a park in the Mill Creek area to get everyone who has been part of our Bible studies together. We’ll send out (and post here) more details soon, but in the meantime, please mark the evening of Sunday, June 19 on your calendar. Also, be thinking of other people you know who might enjoy hanging out with all of us that evening.
