World Vision AIDS Experience

Posted by John Chandler @ 3:32 pm

I received the information below in an email today. In light of some of the things we talked about regarding sacrifice on Sunday, I found it to be quite timely. I hope this is something many of us in the Pathways community will consider visiting:

Can you survive the journey of a child? A World Vision AIDS experience

In the last few months, thousands of people across the nation have been impacted by the World Vision AIDS Experience. Now, this highly acclaimed, 3,000-square-foot exhibit is coming to Seattle in observation of World AIDS Day.

Where: Pier 66, Alaskan Way, Seattle

When: Thursday Dec. 1 - 1pm to 7pm
Friday Dec. 2 - 10am to 7pm
Saturday Dec. 3 - 10am to 7pm

Come walk in the shoes of a child living in an AIDS-affected community in Africa. The stirring audio tour combined with captivating photography and visuals will transport you to the heart of Africa - where you’ll discover that HIV/AIDS is stalking you at every turn. I am interested in attending this exhibit. Let me know if/when others are going to go. My schedule is somewhat flexible. Karl

  2. Dean Kuest Says:

I am going to be out of town this weekend and won’t be able to attend this, but if there are others who would like to go as a group, drop a line or touch base with Karl. I anxious to hear more about it after you attend. There is no greater physical crisis in our world today.

    Karl,
I’m definitely considering it, but haven’t sorted through my schedule yet. I know Sherri would like to go, but I’m not sure if it is something we would want to take Macey to or not.

  4. Karl Says:

Depending on when you guys could go, we could get a sitter for the kids and get a group together to go. Karl

I hope any of you who get the chance will be able to get to this. It’s an incredible opportunity to see the true impact of AIDS and poverty in the world. In the U.S. it’s easy to forget about struggles like this because even those who don’t have sufficient financial resources can, for the most part, get medical attention. That is simply not an option in Africa. Can you imagine breaking your leg and having to let it heal itself without the attention of a doctor? What if you had cancer and had no access to chemotherapy and no choice but to let it kill you? That is a small taste of what the people of Africa experience. Almost everyone in Subsaharan Africa knows someone who has died or will die from complications due to the AIDS virus. 6,000 children in Africa are orphaned every single day because of this pandemic disease.

As followers of Christ, I think it is so important to have a healthy and realistic view of what is going on in the world. How many of those affected have had the chance to experience the love and grace and forgiveness of Christ? What can we do from this little corner of Washington to help an entire continent that is being wiped out by this disease ? You would be very surprised at the impact you can make. Please make the time to get there if you can. I’ll be volunteering at one of the booths, so be sure to stop by and say hello if you make it!
