I doubt this is where the story comes from, but after reading I Corinthians 3:10-23, I can’t help but wonder if Paul’s writings didn’t inspire the Three Little Pigs. (Please do yourself a favor, click on the link and see if it doesn’t take you back to childhood.)
Foundations matter. If you’ve ever had a home with a cracking foundation you know that. If you’ve ever built a sandcastle, if you’ve ever laid cement too thin or lived on a hill with eroding soil, you know that foundations matter. I would never purchase a home or knowingly subject my family to a home with an unsure foundation. Why do we not consider this regarding our personal lives?
Take this a step further. A firm foundation is an excellent starting point, but what are you going to build on top of it? Will it be built out of sticks and hay? Or will it be built out of things that last forever? I hope you’ll spend some time thinking about these things prior to our time together on Sunday.

The what project?
Hodos is the Greek word for way or journey. Or, ahem, pathway. It was the first name that was given to the early Christians as they lived in the Way of Jesus. (See Acts 9:2.) Hodos Project seemed like a fitting name for this season of life as we journey south to start a new community in the Way of Jesus.
I have set up a website at HodosProject.org to share what is happening on our church planting venture. We would love to have you follow along! Your support and encouragement means a great deal to us, both while we are still here in the Northwest, and for when we begin the trek south.

The window is closing for you to be a part of the Off-the-Map seminar this Saturday. This seminar asks a simple question…
What if evangelism meant being yourself?
This seminar celebrates “Ordinary Attempts” to care about people and gives you permission to be an evangelist – caring about people instead of being a used car salesman.
Join us!

God is perfect…but left perfection and entered into an imperfect world
God created…but became a part of creation
God came to save…but sacrificed Himself for creation in order to do that
God is all powerful…but died on a cross
The cross is foolishness.

If I could choose anything in the next six months to have 100% participation from the Pathways community, this seminar would be it. Jim Henderson is a local pastor/dreamer/teacher who deeply desires to change the way that the world understands what it means to follow Jesus. In order to do that, he feels that Christians need to change the way in which they relate to people who are not yet followers of Jesus.
This seminar takes the mystery out of the word “evangelism” and makes it attainable. It builds upon the foundation of the Pathways Core Values as we seek to partner with God in His passion to redeem His creation.
This will be a Saturday that you will want to spend together in community! We’ll dream together, laugh together and wrestle with some difficult ideas together. Don’t miss it.

beau.ti.ful (adj) – aesthetic pleasure, pleasing
mess (adj) – a disordered, untidy, offensive, or unpleasant state or condition
It wouldn’t make sense that these two words would have anything to do with one another. Would it?
As a new father, my wife and I just introduced the “exquisite cuisine” of rice cereal to our little girl. She loves it! I mean she’s moving around in her seat, she’s making “this-is-the-best-thing-I’ve-ever-tasted-in-my-life” noises. If you weren’t looking at her, you would think she was eating the best dish you’ve ever seen! She can’t get enough of it! So much so that by the end of the feeding time, she’s all but covered in it. I mean, it’s just everywhere. It’s a mess. However, there’s something about seeing her with rice cereal all over her smiling little face that is just…well…beautiful. (And pretty dang cute as well
)
Starting this weekend, we are entering into a new series entitled “A Beautiful Mess”. In this series, we will step through the book of 1 Corinthians. The church in Corinth was (for the lack of a better term) a mess. I mean, they just couldn’t keep it together. But God didn’t give up on them. He saw an opportunity to make something beautiful. And He did just that. The funny thing, is that we forget that He can do that same thing with us. With our lives. With our situations. With all of the junk and baggage that we lug around with us everyday. Day in and day out. Yeah, you know, the stuff you think is totally and helplessly…messed up. That stuff. God can make that beautiful too.
But how?
I hope you’ll join us this Sunday.

I’m really excited about a new song that we will all learn together this weekend. Ok, it’s no secret that I’m always excited about a new song. Anyway, there is a line in it that I’ve been turning over in my brain for the past month or so. It says:
“…may the vision of You be the death of me…“
Wow! That’s some serious stuff! This is going to be one of those lines that I think will be too easy to just sing, and perhaps miss out on the meaning. So, let’s tackle it together….
What does that line mean to you?

Hey Pathways community,
I was wondering if any of you have (or have access to) a projector that I could borrow for a little while. It will be lovingly cared for.
If you do, could you either comment on this post or email me. Thanks!
