Affluenza: A Mirror to Your Soul

This weekend Affluenza moves beyond stuff to status. Actually, it moves beyond status to the way in which we view ourselves and the people around us.

Our Society has some very specific ideas about what makes one beautiful, what gives one value or who is worth our time and effort. Followers of Jesus are guilty of buying into so many of these lies. This week we will unpack some of these lies and the truth that we find the Scriptures about the worth that God places upon us.

The ways in which we are communicated value (or a lack thereof) can be so subtle. Remember your high school yearbook? I think every yearbook on the planet has the end of the year awards for the class clown, most likely to succeed, cutest couple, etc… Let’s have some fun. Looking back at your high school experience, make up an award that would have been fitting for you. For instance, I would have been the “Most Likely to Not Have His Name in the Yearbook”. I was invisible in high school…not popular/not unpopular.

What would you have been awarded?
