David Piatt Memorial

This is one of those weeks where I am reminded of the incredible privelege of being a pastor and of the deep brokenness of the world in which we live. I got a call on Monday evening from John and Sue Piatt, some of my closest friends, to find out that their son, David, had taken his life. It is a privelege to sit in brokenness with people that you love. It also sucks and angers me to experience a broken and hurting world, especially when it impacts those you love.

I know there are many of you who have been blessed by John and Sue. I know that there are many of you who knew David and experienced the joy that he brought to life. If you would like to join with the Piatt family in memory of David, the Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 11th. My friend, Steve Michiels, has opened the doors of his church, Northview Community Church, to host us. There will be a reception with light foods following the service.

Northview has a brand new location that is built into an industrial park (Canyon Creek Center) on Bothell Everett Highway in Bothell (right next to BioGenesis & Zipfizz). 18303 Bothell Everett Hwy bothell, Wa 98012

I knew David from competing in a video game together over the past few years. Knowing David was truly a pleasure and an honor, and meeting up and hanging out with him was always a highlight of the events we attended together. He was a good, humble person, and even though he was extremely talented at the game we played, he never let it get to his head, as many others had. He set an example to me, always reminding me to stay humble and respect everyone as an individual. Whenever I found myself straying from this, I always remembered David, and made a conscious decision to be more like him. My thoughts and prayers go out to Sue and John, whom I have never met, but am sure are wonderful people considering the son they raised. David will truly be missed by not only me, but every member of the community of the game in which he played. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend his service because I live in California, and my financial situation does not allow me to travel on such short notice. I just want to let people know that David has touched many lives throughout the years, and although I never had a chance to tell him this, he was one of my favorite people in the world. I hope God relieves some of John and Sue’s pain tomorrow, and may David rest in peace.

David was a smart and witty individual. I enjoyed his sense of humor and talent in video games. He always remembered to say thank you and was an easy person to get along with. He also sent me invites to play online matches with him whenever I asked. He was a good person and a good competitor. I will always remember him.
