Dean on DaVinci

In the intro to this week’s sermon, Dean offered some of his thoughts on how we as a church community should respond to The DaVinci Code. If you weren’t able to be here, here is an mp3 for you to listen to.

    Yesterday Peggy and I attended a church in Cape Coral, FL and we heard a sermon on “The Divinci Code.” The approach that pastor took was 180 from what Dean said. The pastor here even likened Dan Brown to the antichrist. I like Dean’s approach of using the topic as an opening to witness. Too many people know the church for what we stand against rather than learning what we stand for.

    Thanks for the Davinci update, Dad.

    {Stepping onto soapbox}

    I stand in amazement at the folly of Christians who major in the minors – unfortunately tagging Jesus’ name onto it as well! Do we really need to declare “false” a novel which by definition is “fiction”? Do we need to stand in a dark room and declare that it is dark? Let’s quit labeling (as it offends those being labeled), keep our mouths shut and flip on the lightswitch (Matthew 5:14-16).
